8 Things You Need to Know Before Ordering a Modular Water Tank
Learn 8 key factors before ordering a modular water tank, including material selection, capacity, accessories, installation, and cost.
Dear Valued Customer,
To help you complete your water tank purchase and installation efficiently, we recommend confirming your project requirements before ordering a modular water tank. By identifying the application, tank material, capacity, accessories, and installation method in advance, you can improve procurement efficiency while selecting the most economical and suitable water tank solution for your project.

1. Confirm the Application
Please first identify the intended use of the water tank. Based on your application, we will recommend the most suitable tank solution.
Typical applications include:
- Building water supply
- Fire-fighting water storage
- Industrial process and circulating water
- Potable water storage
- Agricultural irrigation
- Water treatment systems
- Seawater desalination
- Municipal water supply
- Hotels, hospitals and schools
- Commercial and industrial projects
Different applications require different levels of corrosion resistance, hygiene standards, service life, and structural design.
2. Select the Tank Material
The tank material should be selected according to water quality, installation environment, project budget, expected service life, and construction schedule.
| Tank Material | Recommended Applications |
|---|---|
| Stainless Steel (SUS304 / SUS316 / SUS316L) | Potable water, food processing, hospitals, hotels, pharmaceutical industry and other hygienic applications |
| Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel (HDG) | Fire water storage, municipal water supply and industrial projects |
| Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) | Agricultural irrigation, general industrial water and cost-sensitive projects |
Selection Recommendations
- Potable water: SUS304 or SUS316 stainless steel tanks are recommended.
- Fire water storage: Hot-dip galvanized steel tanks provide an economical and durable solution.
- Industrial circulating water and agricultural irrigation: FRP tanks offer excellent cost performance.
3. Confirm Tank Capacity and Dimensions
The following factors should be considered when determining tank capacity:
- Daily water consumption
- Peak water demand
- Available installation space
- Site limitations
- Future expansion requirements
Based on these factors, we will calculate the optimal tank dimensions, determine the required modular panel quantity, reinforcement structure, and overall design to ensure both performance and cost efficiency.
4. Confirm Tank Accessories and Flange Sizes
Accessories and specifications are selected according to the tank dimensions, intended application, and external piping requirements.
Standard accessories include:
- Inlet
- Outlet
- Drain outlet
- Overflow outlet
- Vent
- Manhole
- External ladder
- Internal ladder
- Internal tie rods
- Sealing rubber
- Water level indicator
- Leak stopper
- Bolts and nuts
- Fasteners
- Steel base frame
- Flanges

5. Do You Require Installation Services?
We provide two installation options to meet different project requirements.
Remote Installation Guidance (Recommended)
If you have experienced installers or a local construction team, we recommend our remote installation support service.
Our support includes:
- Installation drawings
- Installation manual
- Video guidance
- Online technical support
This service helps ensure a successful installation while reducing project costs.
On-site Installation Service
If required, our experienced installation team can travel to your project site.
Installation costs depend on:
- Project location
- Tank size and capacity
- Installation complexity
- Construction schedule
- Local site conditions
The final quotation will be based on the actual project.
6. How Many Workers Are Required and How Long Does Installation Take?
The following table provides typical installation references for modular water tanks. Actual installation time may vary depending on site conditions.
| Tank Capacity (kL/m³) | Workers | Estimated Installation Time |
|---|---|---|
| 3–50 | 2 | 2 days |
| 50–100 | 2 | 3 days |
| 100–200 | 4 | 3–4 days |
| 200–300 | 4 | 6 days |
| 300–500 | 4 | 10 days |
| 500–800 | 4 | 12 days |
| 800–1,000 | 4 | 15 days |
| 1,000–2,000 | 6 | 10–15 days |
| 2,000–3,000 | 6 | 15–20 days |
| 3,000–4,000 | 6 | 20–25 days |
| 4,000–5,000 | 6 | 30 days |
Note: More workers do not necessarily mean faster installation. Proper team coordination ensures higher installation accuracy, better construction quality, and lower overall installation costs.
7. What Construction Equipment Is Required?
Depending on the project type and installation environment, the following equipment may be required.
Crane
Used for lifting tank panels, steel structures, and accessories, especially for large above-ground and underground water tanks.
Excavator
Required for excavating the foundation pit for underground tanks. It is recommended to leave 1–2 meters of working space around each side of the tank. A reinforced concrete foundation and anti-buoyancy measures should also be prepared according to the project design.
Bulldozer
Mainly used for backfilling and site leveling after the underground tank installation is completed.
