8 Year Follow-Up Inspection of a Hot-Dip Galvanized Water Tank Project

An 8-year follow-up inspection of a hot-dip galvanized water tank project, showcasing durability, corrosion resistance.

Recently, we conducted a follow-up inspection of a hot-dip galvanized water tank installed in a domestic industrial park in 2018. The tank has now been in service for eight years, providing municipal water, fire-fighting water, and domestic water for the industrial park and its office buildings.

HDG Water Tank: 8-Year Performance Review

The system is constructed using 1 × 1 m hot-dip galvanized sectional panels and features an integrated pump room. The main tank measures 18 × 10 × 3 m, while the pump room measures 4 × 2 × 3 m. The entire structure is supported by a heavy-duty steel I-beam foundation.

The tank was designed with a 25-year service life. Because it has been installed outdoors and exposed to the elements year-round, we covered the tank exterior with a 50 mm rubber foam insulation layer. This protective layer helps reduce the effects of prolonged sunlight exposure while shielding the tank from rain, dew, and moisture. As a result, it effectively slows the oxidation of the galvanized steel panels and minimizes corrosion on exposed metal components(How to Protect Water Tanks in 6 Challenging Operating Environments).

During this inspection, we examined the external insulation, galvanized steel panels, connecting bolts, sealing gaskets, and inlet and outlet pipe connections. Although a small portion of the rubber foam insulation had been damaged, the overall condition remained good. No noticeable rust was found on the galvanized steel panels, the connecting bolts showed no significant signs of corrosion, and no leakage was detected around the inlet or outlet piping. Although the pump room was not insulated, its galvanized steel panels also remained in good condition with no obvious corrosion.

During our site visit, we met with the industrial park manager. They confirmed that the hot-dip galvanized water tank has performed reliably and that the water supply system has operated smoothly since installation. They requested our assistance in repairing the damaged insulation layer. In addition, as more companies have moved into the industrial park, the existing water supply system is approaching its capacity limit and can no longer meet peak demand. Therefore, they plan to install an additional water storage tank.

As a professional water tank manufacturer, we provided maintenance recommendations for the existing system and developed a new expansion design based on the customer’s increased water demand.

We have successfully completed many similar projects for industrial parks, office buildings, factories, and commercial facilities. faq

How long can a hot-dip galvanized water tank last?

hot-dip galvanized water tank can typically provide a service life of more than 20 years under proper installation and maintenance. In this project, the water tank has been operating reliably for 8 years with no obvious corrosion on the galvanized panels or connecting components.

Why install rubber foam insulation on a hot-dip galvanized water tank?

The rubber foam insulation layer helps protect the tank from direct sunlight, rain, and moisture exposure. It reduces oxidation of galvanized steel panels and helps extend the service life of outdoor water tanks.
