What Are the Main Components of Stainless Steel Water Tank?

A stainless steel water tank generally consists of three main parts: tank panels, internal structural components, and functional accessories.

A stainless steel water tank generally consists of three main parts: tank panels, internal structural components, and functional accessories.
Together, these components ensure structural strength, operational safety, and reliable performance.

1. Tank Panels (Main Structure)

Tank panels form the main body of a stainless steel water tank.
They are typically made from SUS304 stainless steel sheets and formed by hydraulic pressing.

The bottom, side, and top panels are assembled from stainless steel sheets and connected by welding or bolts to create a sealed tank body.
Tank panels directly affect corrosion resistance and service life.

2. Internal Structural Components (Load-Bearing and Reinforcement)

Internal structural components support the tank panels and reinforce the overall structure.
They are the primary load-bearing elements of the tank and usually include:

  • Vertical columns, which bear vertical loads
  • Tie rods, which enhance structural stability
    • Diagonal tie rods
    • Horizontal tie rods

A well-designed internal structure significantly improves pressure resistance and safety.

3. Functional Accessories (Inlet and Drainage System)

Accessories vary depending on the application.
For domestic water storage tanks, common accessories include:

  • Inlet pipe
  • Outlet pipe
  • Drain pipe
  • Vent pipe
  • Manhole
  • Level gauge
  • Overflow pipe

1) Inlet Pipe

The inlet pipe is usually connected through the tank’s side wall, but it can also be installed at the top or bottom.
When water is supplied by pipeline pressure, a water level control valve or float valve should be installed and connected to the tank top.

When the inlet pipe diameter is ≥ 50 mm, at least two inlet points are generally recommended to ensure sufficient flow.

2) Outlet Pipe

The outlet pipe can be connected through the side wall or the bottom.
For side-wall outlets, the internal outlet level should be at least 50 mm above the tank bottom.
For bottom outlets, the branch pipe top should be 50 mm above the tank base.

The outlet pipe should be equipped with threaded valves or flanged shut-off valves.
Valves requiring excessive operating force are not recommended.

3) Drain Pipe

The drain pipe is usually installed at the bottom of the tank for complete drainage.
A gate valve should be installed (shut-off valves are not recommended).

The drain pipe may be connected to the water supply pipeline but must not be directly connected to drainage equipment.
Unless otherwise specified, the pipe diameter should be no less than 50 mm.

4) Vent Pipe

The vent pipe allows air exchange between the inside of the tank and the outside environment.
It is usually installed on the tank cover, with a diameter of no less than 50 mm.

To prevent insects and debris from entering, the opening should face downward and be fitted with a protective filter screen.

5) Level Gauge

The level gauge is used to monitor the liquid level inside the tank.
It is typically installed on the outer wall and commonly uses a glass level gauge.

If a single gauge is not long enough, multiple gauges may be installed in sections, with overlapping display areas between adjacent gauges.

6) Overflow Pipe

The overflow pipe automatically discharges excess water to prevent overfilling.
It can be installed on the side wall or at the bottom. The pipe diameter is usually one to two sizes larger than the inlet pipe.

The overflow pipe must not be directly connected to drainage equipment.
It should use indirect drainage and be fitted with a filter to prevent dust and insects from entering.

Summary

The components and accessories described above are standard configurations for stainless steel water tanks.
A reputable stainless steel water tank manufacturer will help customers determine the required components during the purchasing stage and conduct strict inspections before delivery to ensure safety and long service life.
